50 000 words written

I did it again. I spent this month writing 50 000 words for NaNoWriMo.

50 000 words.

30 days.

Unlimited plot holes and mixed up timelines.

My story had clones, psychic powers, death, mystery, and betrayal. Thinking about what I’ve written maybe I should go back into it and actually clean it up as an actual novel. The plot in my head is really fun with characters that have potential. I’m also my worst critic…

I have been an active participant in NaNoWriMo for many years now so I have 50 000 words for several novels just mulling around in my google drive. Some have potential. Some are just all over the place that the effort to go on and edit them seems almost terrifying.

What do you think? Would you want to read stories about the first male witch in 100 generations? A town that was infected by an alien lifeform? A pair of clones who are on the run from mutated clones? A debt collector who is collecting human souls?

I love the rush of trying to meet that word count while also attempting to adult. Working as a teacher means that I get a lot of reading and writing done but most of it is not for pleasure. Now that Term 4 is nearing an end I’m suddenly getting a lot more time to do things that I want to do.

So, what are my goals for this summer? Resting, exploring, and lots of reading.

I’ve got a pile of books (several piles actually) around my house so I really shouldn’t be buying any more until I’ve finished those. Some are pure fun like stories set in the universe of Alien with mentions of one of my favourite protagonists – Ellen Ripley. And others are books that I might like to teach.

I also want to spend time outside and time drawing. I love drawing but I never seem to set aside time to draw every day.

I think I need to take up a new hobby so I’m open to suggestions. What’s something that you like to do that brings you happiness?
